Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center

Boston Children’s Hospital Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC) is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through the timely and efficient translation of genetic, genomic, and neuroscience research. By fostering collaborations among research investigators, world-class clinicians, and the external IDD community, the center aims to advance understanding and treatment of IDD.

  • Research Collaborations: Facilitates partnerships between experienced researchers and clinicians to drive innovative studies in genetics, genomics, and neuroscience.
  • Core Services: Offers specialized core facilities, including:
    • Animal Behavior & Physiology Core: Provides services and expertise in animal models to study behavior and physiological processes.
    • Cellular Imaging Core: Offers advanced imaging technologies to visualize cellular structures and functions.
    • Clinical Translational Core: Bridges basic research and clinical applications, supporting biorepositories, neurobehavioral assessments, and neurophysiology studies.
    • Gene Analysis & Editing Core: Provides gene analysis, bioinformatics, gene editing, and related services to facilitate genetic research.
  • Community Engagement: Engages with the IDD community to ensure research aligns with the needs and priorities of individuals with IDD and their families.
  • Educational Initiatives: Organizes seminars, events, and training programs to disseminate knowledge and foster the next generation of researchers and clinicians in the field of IDD.
